Unfortunately, the most popular anime of today are all about fanservice. They're sexy and they're bound to succeed. I have no problem with that, but there's no reason that ALL anime should have to be like that. It's time to find some other kind of anime that appeals to a wider audience. Anime is a beautiful art form, and the wide variety of stories, characters and settings that exist in it can be truly amazing. It's time for that to be appreciated again. If you're interested in finding some, check out Funimation 's site and also this one .
Finally, I just started watching Prison Break so far. To be honest, I'm not sure why I'm so excited about it, but I'll admit that this is one of those things I love and watch until the end. I never catch up on the main story line, but just seeing the characters one more time makes me feel like I was there in person. I don't know if I'll be able to stay through the whole thing, but I'll certainly be catching up when I get a chance.
Speaking of releases from Funimation, I just finished watching Gundam UC and I really enjoy it. It has a lot of fantasy/sci-fi elements and like most of the Gundam series there's lots of explosions and battles. It's a story about three friends who join a school where they learn about martial arts and the history of Earth. There's some really good character development and the animation is definitely above average for a Japanese production. I don't know why this series has been so overlooked, but I'd definitely recommend it.
Why is it so hard to get Akira on DVD? Easy -- the master tapes are long gone. When the movie was created, the vision for what the studio wanted was for it to be a live-action Japanese film for Japanese audiences, and they filmed it that way. As it gained popularity, it was decided that it made more sense to simply not include a lot of the Samurai fight scene in the movie, so they used up the master tapes doing so. If the film could be remastered and put out on DVD, the bad audio would simply be wiped out, and the visual clarity and clarity of the scene would be significantly enhanced. I'm not against the idea of remastering the movie for theatrical and home video release, I think it would be a great idea and a testament to the film's popularity. But if it has to be a streaming only release, why does it have to be the only way I can watch it?!
It's not just video content either. Music is also a hot commodity in streaming media. Many popular music artists, like David Bowie, are releasing music on streaming media, which will never be released on DVD or Blu-ray. The Japanese pop group, Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku, has released all four of their albums on streaming media instead of DVD and is now releasing a new album every year on streaming media. Sure, the new songs are available to stream as soon as they're released, but the old songs are there for the buying. Streaming media isn't just great for everything, it's great for a lot of things, but it's not great for everything. 827ec27edc
