E:\GTAIV\data3.cab on my second DVD is damaged and won't install the game, it installs untill i have to insert DVD2, then it says it could'nt find a file and that data3.cab is damaged, any solutions to this problem?
Man i'm blind or what? There no such thing as middle ... It says Setup Requires A Disk change. Please insert disc 2 that contains the file data3.cab. Path: browse/cance/ok ... i go to data3.cab hit ok and pops up Setup could not find a file on specifiedpath of disk. Please check that proper disk is inserted or specify a new path. (im using vista premium)
If you're having CRC errors, then nothing will work, the disc is damaged (even though it might not visbily be). Rockstar certainly seems to have a habit of shopping at cheap dvd'r us for their media. I have a sh*tload of DVD's and only two have CRC errors, (GTA-Sa and GTAÏV funny that).
"please insert disk 2 that contains the file data3.cab."When i inserted Disk 2 I didn't know wat 2 do so now wat? AuthorReplies: pukee Archer posted 08-17-06 03:42 EST (US) 1 / 17 press OK Tarbo Archer posted 08-17-06 11:28 EST (US) 2 / 17 This is an error that occurs in some instances, and isn't unique to Stronghold 2. Possibly, simply clicking OK may help. Personally, I swap out discs until it works. Seriously now, if this doesn't work, it's likely to be an installation problem. Sometimes, something goes wrong during installation, and the program believes it has to install more data when it doesn't. In this case, you should try reinstalling (don't forget to delete your previous attempt).Sometimes, the problem is triggered by programs such as antivirus software, or Alcohol or Daemon tools. Try disabling such software before installing. But almost every time, just reinstalling worked for me."She displayed amazing skill in squeezing epic mistakes in tiny opportunities.""You haven't had enough coffee until you can sneeze with your eyes open.""Education should be treated like an expensive watch: never struck out just to show you have one.""Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual." lil_kid565 Archer posted 08-17-06 17:44 EST (US) 3 / 17 How many times do you have to stop it and install it again and also how do u delete your previous attemp? As an alternative, I've found that if you copy the CD contents to a folder on your hard drive and install from there, it works (depends on the game). You'll still need the "Play CD" to play the game.Just so we are clear on everything, could you detail exactly what you do when installing the program? Tarbo Archer posted 08-18-06 05:49 EST (US) 6 / 17 Go to "My computer", right-click on your CD icon, select "Open" or "Explore". Make sure there is a CD in the drive, or Windows will say that the medium is unavailable.Could you please detail what you do during installation? I inserted disk 2 and clicked ok but it said like please put the right disk or select a new path something like that. Tarbo Archer posted 08-18-06 10:21 EST (US) 8 / 17 Yes, I recall the game had a similar issue with me, although I can't readily recall how I solved it. On the other hand, if I haven't bothered to remember, it can't have been too difficult.Have you tried selecting the Disk2 folder on the CD contents? Windows shows the drive letter in parentheses in "My Computer". Most of the time, this is "D:", but this may vary from machine to machine. Here's a picture that may make things clearer (click to enlarge). The sky blue circle is on the file we need: "data3.cab". You may have noticed that the file is in the "Disk2" directory on Stronghold 2's Play CD. Next to it is the DirectX folder you mentioned. If you look at the dark oval more to the left, you'll see the path where "data3.cab" is. This is the path you need to give the installation program. Copy it from here, paste it in, and select OK. In my case, this is "D:\Disk2", but the drive letter may be different on your machine. The black box shows what the CD's directory structure looks like. Notice that it has two directories: "Autorun" and "Disk2", and that the icon for "Disk2" points out that it is the current folder (it is open).Note: If the installation program doesn't accept what you pasted, try adding a backslash character, so you would have "D:\Disk2\"."She displayed amazing skill in squeezing epic mistakes in tiny opportunities.""You haven't had enough coffee until you can sneeze with your eyes open.""Education should be treated like an expensive watch: never struck out just to show you have one.""Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual." lil_kid565 Archer posted 08-18-06 13:24 EST (US) 11 / 17 Its still not working for me its keep on sayin the same stuff for both! Can u tell me wat to do step by step please[This message has been edited by lil_kid565 (edited 08-18-2006 @ 01:30 PM).] Tarbo Archer posted 08-18-06 14:18 EST (US) 12 / 17 First of all, there is no guarantee that this will work. It is a guess, but I believe it may be how I got things to run (or it may have been some other program).Install as you normally would. This includes swapping CDs when you're asked. When you come to the point that you are asked to insert the disk that contains "data3.cab":Insert CD 2 (the Play CD) into any CD drive that you have.Give the computer some time to load/mount the CD. Wait a few seconds after your CD drive stops spinning; there is usually a light on when the CD is spinning -- wait for it to go out.Open "My computer". You may find the key combo "WinKey + E" handy here, since XP tends to hide these things from you.Right-click the drive that holds your CD, and select "Open".Double-click on the "Disk2" folder. Make sure that the file "data3.cab" is in it. It will probably not look like the blue archive I have; that's because I have software installed that can read it. Expect it to look like a yellow filing cabinet, or a white sheet with a picture on it.Select the path you have in the address bar at the top of the window (it's in the dark oval that I drew earlier). Now press "Ctrl + C" to copy it.Go back to the installation program, and select the dialog box that's asking you to input a path. Do not press Browse. Here, press "Ctrl + V" to paste the path into the box you have, then press the Enter key.If the program says the path is invalid or does not hold the required data, add a backslash character to the back of the path you pasted. A backslash character is a '\'."She displayed amazing skill in squeezing epic mistakes in tiny opportunities.""You haven't had enough coffee until you can sneeze with your eyes open.""Education should be treated like an expensive watch: never struck out just to show you have one.""Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual." lil_kid565 Archer posted 08-18-06 14:40 EST (US) 13 / 17 Man it still not working i did every thing! i wonder wat im doin wrong PCDania Archer (id: PCD) posted 08-18-06 18:11 EST (US) 14 / 17 It looks like the CD 2 is damaged. Maybe lil_kid565 should take the game back where he bought it and get it changed? Normally shops don't like to change game that has been opened because they are afraid people have made a copy of the game but if you ask to get it changed to the same game because one of the discs are damaged in the current one it is normally not a problem."Cats are the only animals that are both uber, pwns and 1337 at the same time." -King EuricBy reading this fine print your soul is now the exclusive property of HeavenGames. Tarbo Archer posted 08-18-06 18:36 EST (US) 15 / 17 Meh, I've returned games before, although it was within the reasonable boundary of, say, one hour? Really, I expected a game and got a commercial. But I digress.Check for scratches, cuts, carves, anything that doesn't look like it belongs with the spiral on the back of the CD (the bottom, if you prefer). If you find these, and you have the intention of returning them, don't try fixing it, just return it. Some more discerning shopkeepers may otherwise call on "intentional damage", which is usually grounds for voiding any kind of warranty. If they refuse to swap CDs with you, then you can try fixing them. We have methods that you could best describe as quote-unquote creative. One other thing you can do is something I mentioned before: copying the contents of the CDs to your hard drive, and installing from there. Security is on running the game, not installing it, so you're perfectly legal there. The easiest way would be to create a new folder --say, "C:\Temp\SH2_CDS"-- and copy the contents in there. Copy the contents of CD1's "Disk1" in there, (simply drag the contents from the CD directory to the temporary you created). Do the same with CD2's "Disk2" directory.Note that you should drag the contents, not the folders themselves. Ultimately, the contents of Disk1 and Disk2 should be in the same folder: "C:\Temp\SH2_CDS".Now install from "C:\Temp\SH2_CDS", using "setup.exe"; you can eject the CD just to be sure you're installing from the right spot. If the installer asks for CDs, just point it to "C:\Temp\SH2_CDS".This way, the data files are right where installers will expect them: at their fingers.Keep in mind that you will be copying between 1GB and 1.5GB to your hard drive; this may take a few minutes. Don't worry, though; when you're done installing, you can remove the temporary directory you created. If you encounter an error such as "CRC check failed" or "cyclic redundancy error", then your CD is damaged or badly produced, and you should return it.________________________Here's a batch file that may make it easier on you.
