The film was shot in a primarily flat style, with more of a classical horror film style than a 3D horror film. Raimi states that he wanted to make the film in an archaic style, so that the film could exist in a different time period; he wanted it to feel like a silent film, and wouldn't shy away from using black and white to convey the horror of the story. Because the film was shot in a relatively conservative style, the budget was kept low to capitalize on the style, keeping the $30 million budget low and not working with a large crew.[4] Some scenes were shot using a dolly and Steadicam as the actors walked through the set.[4] For a horror film to be effective, the director must have a clear sense of how a horror film should be made, and a good understanding of what makes a film satisfying as horror. Without a good understanding of film as a storytelling device, a horror film will fail and will fall into the realm of being a scary movie.[2] The director needs to have a clear idea of what a horror film should be; without this idea, it is very difficult to put a coherent story together in a horror film.[5] The director needs to have a strong moral center and ability to communicate one as well. The director must have an understanding of the ideal horror film, such as having a strong sense of the beginning and the end, and also know what to include or not include in the film. In the end, the director must know when to push the audience away from a good horror movie and when to hold on to them, and when to push them away from bad horror movies and when to hold on to them, to make the audience think that it is a horrible movie and then push them away. Raimi took a number of courses to learn how to direct horror films, and he recommends the course to any director that wishes to take the course.[4][10]
After Drag Me to Hell, Raimi was hired to write and direct Evil Dead remake, while Rob Tapert was hired to produce and direct a remake of Evil Dead 2. Production began in October 2009, in Vancouver, Canada. The film's release date was confirmed as February 12, 2013, and the cast was revealed in November 2010. The film was released on April 12, 2013, and grossed $54.6 million in the United States and Canada, and $89.2 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics and is considered a commercial failure.
Some applications, such as Java, require that the application directories and libraries are updated to a newer version before the user can update. However, there are some applications that are not explicitly API-specific, such as the X Window System, the X server source code, are automatically updated as required.
