Ati Radeon Hd 5770 Graphics For Mac

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 and used it happily with OSX 6.8 and my Logic 9 workstation which had a standard graphics card to drive 2 monitors. However whilst scoring a new film shot at 23.976 fps, the editors aren't converting to 24 fps for post, so I can no longer fire MIDI TC to a MacBook where the movie always ran out to a larger screen using a Canopus box (MIDI TC doesn't exist at 23.976 fps)
Having installed the graphics card ... I plugged in the standard DVI monitor leads to my 2 computer monitors which work fine ... but taking the HDMI output from the HD 5770 to the 3rd screen, there is no sign of the 3rd monitor working ... nor does it turn up in in the System Prefs Arrangement page or the Logic Cinema prefs also have nothing show up and "external video output" project settings.
Since my initial enquiry ... I find this card is a 'Sapphire' ATI Radeon 5770 1 gb GDDR5 card .. it is designed to work on any Mac Pro with OSX6.8 or later. But not really sure about why HDMI output doesn't seem to function?
Is the card "flashed" to be Mac compatible? Unfortunately flashing a PC graphics card to be Mac friendly often renders the HDMI port useless, so you may need to try the Displayport output. If the 3rd monitor only has HDMI inputs, there are HDMI > DP cables available, e.g.. kenable DisplayPort Plug to HDMI Male Plug Display/Monitor/TV Cable 1m
Few of the threads actually now relate to my version of the 5770 card ... the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 GDDR5 which has 2 x DVI, 1 x HDMI and 1 DP. It was designed for PC and those running Macs have been blown with firmware updates, and as a consequence most likely don't run the HDMI port. (which mine doesn't)
3rd monitor (large LED screen) is running happily out of 5770 via DP > HDMI but mirrors the main Mac screen. ("Mirror" option in System Prefs is turned off) ... the 2 DVI outputs supply my monitors as normal and appear in System Prefs "Display arrangement" window.
HI choreo :)I'm not a Mac user,. but,.. I can't see that having two different brands of graphics cards on the same motherboard is going to be an advantage anywhere. normally on PC you're advised to have two of the same Model. I know there were issue with the ATI Drivers on C8 at one point, and it was recommended that the users go back a driver version, but that was some time ago, so I'm sure it's been resolved at both ends now.I've used both Radeon and Ge-force and have no problems with either, but not together on the same system.that just seems like an issue waiting to happen.
Well, I finally broke down and purchased/installed an ATI RADEON HD 5770 (w/1-Gig GDDR5 memory). I removed the NVIDIA GT 120 card, but kept the ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT Card in Slot 2 for the secondary monitors. I performed this upgrade "exclusively" so that I could run Carrara again (as ALL my other apps worked previously).
With all due respect, the 5770 can run up to 3 monitors by it's self. There is really no need for the second ATI card unless you are going to "CrassFireX' them together. Nice card and really glad you got Carrara running correctly. If you want any help with Carrara the guys and gals at the forum at Renderosity.com are always ready. Happy Rendering!!!

When Apple announced the new 2010 Mac Pros, they finally added support for two new ATI Radeon HD graphics cards for the Mac Pro. The new Mac Pros can be configured with either the ATI Radeon HD 5770 or 5870 cards. Existing Mac Pro owners had been hopeful that they would be able to easily upgrade their existing Mac Pros to these same cards.
The 5770 part is essentially a replacement part for the newly shipping Mac Pros and apparently does not officially offer an upgrade path to existing Mac Pro owners. Meanwhile, the 5870 card (which isn't shipping yet) does offer an upgrade path, but only for 2009 Mac Pro owners.
